Starting Monday, July 18, 2011, at the Museum and Archaeological Site of Nice-Cemenelum – Cimiez
The City of Nice invites you to participate in the summer activities offered by the Museum and Archaeological Site of Nice Cemenelum, in partnership with the Museum of Human Paleontology Terra Amata.
On the program: introduction to ancient sports and experimental archaeology, as well as an interactive animation on ancient games.

For this 3rd Nice edition of “The Gates of Time,” join us the week of July 18 to 27 and August 8 to 12, 2011!
The event entitled “The Gates of Time” aims to host groups of children and adolescents from urban and rural priority areas and offer them a week of activities centered around ancient sports and experimental archaeology.
In 2010, in Nice, this project, led by the Ministry of Culture and Communication, welcomed around 350 children with the help of the Nice Côte d’Azur Urban Community, “Les Francas 06,” delegates of the prefect for city policy, national sponsors (EDF, Crédit Coopératif) and local sponsors (Monoprix Cimiez).
This year, more than 500 children are already registered.
– Second activity segment: “Games of Hands, Games of Romans”
Nice-Cemenelum offers an interactive animation on Roman Games in a space featuring nine ancient games and their modern equivalents.
A wide audience, including groups, families, children, and disabled people, can discover forgotten games from Antiquity and others that have survived the centuries and evolved into the forms we know today.
In this friendly space, visitors can discover the “Game of 12 Lines” and its modern equivalent “Backgammon,” the strategic game of “Marelle,” the “Jacks” game highly prized by young children of Antiquity, or even the solitaire game invented by the Romans mentioned by Ovid in the 1st century…
