Ironman France Nice: Del Corral and Deckers Stand Out

Latest News

Victor Del Corral among the men, and Tine Deckers among the women, claimed victory this Sunday, June 5, during the 12th edition of Ironman France. They controlled the race from start to finish.

Finally, a victory for Victor Del Corral! Second in 2014 and 2015, the Spaniard came this year to have his name added to the winners’ list. That is now accomplished. He claimed victory in 8 hours and 30 minutes ahead of South African James Cunnama (8h30’35”) and German Stefan Schmid (8h33’18”).

Frederik Van Lierde, a three-time winner, took 4th place. It’s an excellent result for the Belgian, 6 weeks after his collarbone fracture. On the French side, a bit of disappointment with the abandonment of Bertrand Billard, who was second at the Vichy Ironman this year. Antony Costes, on the other hand, finished only 52nd, an hour behind the winner.

And that’s 5 for Tine Deckers! Already a winner 4 times in the event (2009, 2010, 2012, 2014), the Belgian lived up to her reputation and claimed victory once again this Sunday with a time of 9 hours and 22 minutes. She finished ahead of Swiss Emma Bilham (9h28’55”), who was participating for the first time, and British Leanda Cave (9h45’06”), who was among the favorites this year.
