The extreme triathlon event significantly disrupts traffic and parking in Nice. Here is the information you need to know to better plan your movements this weekend.
The 4,600 athletes registered will plunge into the Mediterranean water this Sunday, June 25, in front of the Quai des États-Unis. The Ironman 70.3 will continue in the afternoon with the cycling stage and conclude with a marathon on the Promenade des Anglais. This is a training opportunity before the Ironman World Championship finals, which will be held for the first time in Nice on September 10, 2023.
Due to the sports event in the city, as a safety measure, access around the course will be challenging for road users. The municipality recommends avoiding traveling by vehicle in the Promenade des Anglais and Old Nice area. In this regard, the city of Nice encourages the use of public transport.
Closure of the Promenade des Anglais, Sunday, June 25
For parking, the guidelines suggest using the Parcazur park-and-ride facilities, strategically located at the borders of the area”. However, they will all be accessible except for the Sulzer parking (from Sunday, June 25, 0:01 AM to Monday, June 26, 4:00 AM) and the Rhul Méridien parking (accessible only via Avenue de Suède from Saturday, June 24, 8:00 PM to Monday, June 26, 4:00 AM). If you are traveling towards West Nice, the Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport, East Nice, or Downtown Nice, the city encourages using the A8 Motorway and Voie Mathis.
Indeed, the Promenade des Anglais will be closed from Saturday, June 24, 8:00 PM until Monday, June 26, 2:00 AM. All perpendicular streets will also be closed to traffic. Only residents will have access to these dead ends.
To access Old Nice, you will need to use the entry via descente Crotti. Exit will be possible via the descente Auguste Escoffier. These restrictions apply from June 25 at 0:01 AM to Monday, June 26, at 4:00 AM.
Difficulties for bike movements
Under these conditions, moving by bike without issues will generally be challenging. Indeed, access to the bike lane on avenue de Verdun (between rue de Suède and the Promenade des Anglais) will return to normal starting Tuesday, June 27, 8:00 PM. The same goes for the bike lane on the Promenade des Anglais, south sidewalk, and that of Tunnel du Congrès. They will reopen on June 27 at 7:00 AM. The one on Quai des États-Unis, south sidewalk, will be closed from Thursday, June 22, 6:00 AM to Monday, June 26, 8:00 PM.
On the competition day, from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, the bike lane on Promenade des Anglais and promenade Corniglion Molinier, south sidewalk, will be closed as it is used for the cycling event.
