The IRONMAN company has just announced that the 2015 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship will be held in Europe. Four cities, already known as hosts of IRONMAN races, have been selected and are among the finalists, namely the cities of Haugesund (Norway), Luxembourg, Zell am See-Kaprun (Austria), and… Nice!
If selected, it would be a crowning achievement for the capital of the French Riviera, which has been involved in this increasingly popular event for years, and a confirmation of the sports event policy of its mayor.
As announced earlier in the season, the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship will now be awarded each year to a new city. More than 2,500 athletes will thus be selected through various IRONMAN 70.3 races organized around the world.
The city of Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, will host the next World Championship, which will take place on September 7.
As the host city of IRONMAN France, Nice is already known and recognized on the international triathlon scene. Swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, a bike course through the heart of the Alpes-Maritimes, and a run along a historic seafront.
Nearly 150,000 athletes will take part in the IRONMAN 70.3 world tour during the 2014/2015 season, which includes nearly 70 events organized in countries such as Australia, Brazil, Malaysia, and South Africa.
It is also important to note that each age group winner of the 2014 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship edition will automatically qualify for the 2015 edition.
