The Socialist Party (PS) adopted last Saturday the principle of a primary in December. So, what is this primary proposal? For Solfรฉrino, it involves bringing together the forces of progress and the ecologists.
A primary of ideas among ecologists, progressives, and democrats to counter the right-wing conservatives and the ultra-conservatives of the far right and to break out of this depressive spiral and initiate a new positive dynamic.
In fact, the democratic debate in the 2015 elections, both departmental and regional, was confiscated by nationalisms,
And allowing the head of state the opportunity to engage with the process, thus setting aside the left’s record and focusing on the right and the campaign, might not be the worst idea.
Ecologists and communists consider it a sine qua non condition, more than a grand citizen debate to determine a common ground to answer the question “who and for what purpose” and to accept that the losers rally behind the winner.
But how to prevent Jean-Luc Mรฉlenchon, who has already declared himself, from abandoning his ride on the merry-go-round to please his ego?
The PS has a significant argument: the legislative elections. The ecologists and communists are notably dependent on the socialists in almost all of their constituencies.
An electoral defeat with no left-wing candidate participating in the second round would mean a disaster, with a parliamentary group reduced to 80/100 members.
In that case, the “every man for himself” rule would apply, and the disappearance of the communist and ecologist groups would be practically certain.
