A week after the rally against anti-Semitism, the department organized a solemn ceremony in tribute to the victims of the attack perpetrated in Israel and for the release of the hostages.
This Sunday, November 19, at the CADAM in Nice, the Alpes-Maritimes department reaffirmed its unwavering support for the victims of the October 7 attack. The speakers paid tribute to the victims and demanded the “immediate and unconditional” release of the hostages held by Hamas. Before the representatives’ speeches, a visual tribute to the forty French people killed in this attack was unveiled. Composed of portraits of the victims, this mournful mosaic reflects the atrocity of the events.
The words used were strong, mirroring the crimes committed during the attack of last October 7. Charles Ange Ginésy wished to recount this “blind and unspeakable violence.” The President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes condemns that “Hamas has crucified peace.” The speech was characterized by deep emotion. He particularly wished to echo the attacks known in France with that perpetrated in Israel.
Charles Ange Ginésy reaffirmed his support for the eight hostages held by Hamas. He declares: “We are with them.” On the occasion of this ceremony, the facade of the departmental archives building displayed an unequivocal banner. It reads: “Fight against terrorism. Free the hostages!”

A national context of concern
Franck Israël, President of the Consistory of the Côte d’Azur-Corsica region, expressed his concern about the rise of anti-Semitic acts in France. He deplores the dangers of a “banalization of the worst.” Social networks were in the spotlight. Franck Israël indeed pointed fingers at “influencers” who allegedly spread unacceptable remarks. Finally, he emphasizes the importance of taking action. He calls for, like Eric Ciotti, a national tribute. Jérôme Culioli, President of CRIF South-East, also spoke, insisting on the necessity to fight against terrorism.
Finally, the deputy Éric Ciotti declared in conclusion that “this moment is important so that forgetfulness and indifference do not threaten us.” He once again supported the need for a national tribute to the victims of the attack. This solemn ceremony ended in a climate of intense emotions. Despite this extremely difficult context, the speakers emphasized the necessity not to overshadow the few glimmers of hope.
