The “yellow vests” plan to mobilize again on Saturday, February 23, for their fifteenth weekend of action.
These demonstrations will serve as a test, as the previous weekend’s mobilization once again showed declining participation numbers.
It is undoubtedly a turning point in the Yellow Vests movement. While the unwavering prepare for their 15th day of mobilization, an Elabe poll indicates for the first time since November that a majority of French people (56%) believe the movement should stop.
After three months of protests marked by violence and destruction, it may indeed be time to turn the page, or at least find other ways to continue.
Certainly, it is understandable that some Yellow Vests cling to their roundabouts and the solidarities that were born there. But today, the movement is going in circles.
Beyond the call to continue the demonstrations, what is most visible every Saturday are the acts of violence, perpetrated by radicals (from the far right and far left) and rioters.
