From Wednesday, September 20 to Sunday, September 24, 2023, the Cinémathèque de Nice kicks off the season. On this occasion, various open access screenings are offered.
The Cinémathèque de Nice organizes its kickoff around a cycle entirely dedicated to the start of the season. The “It’s Back to School” cycle honors school in all its forms. This will provide an opportunity to view films from Jean Vigo, Jacques Rozier, François Truffaut, Linday Anderson, John Hughes, Cédric Klapisch, and Laurent Cantet, among others.
This cinematic season will also feature a tribute to the late Jane Birkin, who passed away on July 16. To celebrate her, the Cinémathèque de Nice will screen a selection of her 1980s filmography on the big screen. Additionally, during this cycle, you will have the opportunity to attend a retrospective of the works of filmmaker Jean Eustache in restored copies. Finally, a selection of crime dramas by the most significant filmmakers of the Golden Age of Mexican film noir awaits you in the coming days.
Furthermore, on the occasion of the Rugby World Cup, the Cinémathèque will screen Mercenaire by Sacha Wolff and Invictus by Clint Eastwood. Finally, the month of October will celebrate the Festival of Creations with a screening on Sunday, October 8 at 3:00 PM of Opening Night by John Cassavetes. Also, the Animation Film Festival, from October 11 to 31, with the screening of three films: Animal Farm by John Halas and Joy Batchelor, The Ruthless Honeymoon! by Bill Plympton, and Unicorn Wars by Alberto Vázquez.
