The sports newspaper L’Equipe published an interview in which Camille Muffat, the Olympic champion trained and affiliated with ONN, announces her retirement from her swimming career.
The reason? A disagreement with her coach Fabrice Pellerin, who has been coaching her since she was 12 years old. In fact, there is no controversy for Camille Muffat: “I don’t hold it against anyone.”
The fact remains that after Yannick Angel, it’s Camille Muffat’s turn to leave ONN and specific training.
However, this sudden retirement is a heavy blow for the French team, which will have to compete without its only female leader at the upcoming European Championships in Berlin (August 18-24).
As the top European nation in 2010, with a historic haul of 21 medals, France will have a tough time maintaining its position.
Camille Muffat’s retirement adds to Camille Lacourt’s hip injury, who, at best, will only compete in the 50m backstroke.
It is a harsh blow for the Nice club, which has lost its two stars in a short period!
