Jacques Peyrat, who during his political career held every local and national public office, bids farewell to politics.
He was a Deputy, Senator, Mayor, Regional Councillor, General Councillor, and President of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Agglomeration Community. Elected twice as Mayor of Nice between 1995 and 2007, he credits himself with the first line of the Nice tramway and the implementation of intercommunality, which has now become a Metropolis.
He announced his decision with a simple statement: “I am retiring, definitively, from political life. This decision is highly significant for me, it marks the closing of a crucial chapter of my life.”
Defeated by Christian Estrosi in the 2008 municipal elections, Jacques Peyrat tried to return to political life by running in several elections, but without success.
Times change and it was (undoubtedly) time to turn the political page.
