Jacques Peyrat officially announced to the members of his political movement, the Republican Agreement, his intention to participate in the upcoming 2014 municipal elections. “Yes, I will get involved and I advocate a gathering with all those who share the same vision of municipal management, away from political politicking and bickering of all kinds.”
Who are these potential candidates? Present in the room, Philippe Vardon (Nissa Rebela) and Christian Vanneste (RPF) seem already designated, and it is foreseeable that only a few details, such as addressing some egos, need to be worked out to formalize the alliance.
More difficult seems to be the agreement, though the most natural from a political logic and personal relationship perspective (at least in the past) with the National Front. And this for various reasons. Firstly, Marine Le Pen’s party believes it has strong potential in this right-leaning territory and wants to capitalize on it with a more national vision in its own name, which would not be possible within the framework of a more local “platform.”
Then, the sidelining of the young and ambitious Marine enforcer, Gaรซl Nofri, in favor of a party heavyweight, Bruno Gollnisch, certainly eliminates a young wolf with long teeth, but is certainly not the right option for Jacques Peyrat, who comments quite negatively: “I have respect and consideration for Bruno Gollnisch, but his parachuting into Nice would be a mistake. The people of Nice do not like parachutes, as a few past cases have shown well. And, personally, I would consider it an unacceptable affront.”
Jacques Peyrat is a shrewd politician; “I do not set exclusivity conditions for the position of Mayor candidate on a union list. It would be preferable to discuss it all together and choose the best solution.”
Christian Estrosi is quite naturally the favorite target of the former mayor, who still has not digested, let alone forgotten, the method used by his successor to evict him in 2008. “This man is an impostor, a cuckoo who takes advantage of the nest built by others,” he says, before recalling the list of “his” projects and achievements presented as his own by his successor, as well as the number of promises abandoned or proudly announced but still not realized.”
Jacques Peyrat has not forgotten the two failures in the 2010 cantonal elections (14th canton of Nice) and the 2012 legislative elections (3rd constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes): Will the municipal elections in 2014 not be one campaign too many?
There, the old lion with the intact mane regains all his pride by citing Vauvenargues: “To achieve great things, one must live as if one would never die.”
