Jacques Peyrat denies Bernadette Chirac regarding the Alzheimer Institute

The former Mayor of Nice, in the statement below, once again criticizes the current outgoing mayor for attributing certain achievements to himself, which Christian Estrosi allegedly claims as his own, while the truth might be quite different. But we all know that propaganda is never a stranger to politics, just as sometimes lies are to reality. So, why be surprised by these little slips?

Jacques Peyrat clarifies: “The regional daily newspaper Nice Matin, in its edition of Saturday, February 8, 2014, reports on pages 30 and 31 dedicated to an interview with Mrs. Bernadette Chirac by the newspaper’s editorial team regarding the Claude Pompidou Alzheimer Institute in Nice, that the wife of the former President of the Republic initiated the construction after meeting with the Prefect, Mr. Estrosi, and a number of specialists. The reality of the facts compels me to recall that the said Institute was initiated while I was Mayor of Nice and Chairman of the Board of the University Hospital Center, following numerous meetings held in my office at the Nice Town Hall, which subsequently led to the granting of the building permit.”

The former mayor and candidate adds: “Moreover, I wish to specify that it was during my second term from 2001 to 2008 that the project came to fruition, notably thanks to the donation of the land through a resolution unanimously voted during a plenary session of the University Hospital Center under my authority.

In the interest of objectivity, which will allow us to render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s, it seemed useful to me to set the record straight before the inauguration of this most modern institute in France by Messrs. Sarkozy and Estrosi on March 10, just 13 days prior to the first round of the Nice municipal election…”

A duel with not-so-gentle jabs between two political adversaries who know each other well and are fully aware that there is only one Caesar!

And now, how about getting back to serious mattersโ€ฆ
