Since 2009, World Corsica Day has been celebrated every January 9th, an opportunity to promote the island of beauty and the treasures it holds.
It was filmmaker Magà Ettori who took the initiative to establish a World Corsica Day, on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the resistance fighter Danielle Casanova, who died in deportation at Auschwitz in 1943.
The third largest island in the western Mediterranean after Sicily and Sardinia, the island of beauty is a destination that inspires dreams and is not very far from us, really not far.
160 km as the crow flies from Corsica, Nice is the city from which it is the quickest to reach, by plane or boat. This is also the reason why many Corsicans have settled in Nice.
So, on the occasion of this 13th World Corsica Day, here is a selection of three places you must visit on holiday in one of the most beautiful regions of France.
The Calanques of Piana
Located in the Gulf of Porto, a UNESCO heritage site between the cities of Ajaccio and Calvi, the Calanques of Piana are a must-see on a trip to Corsica. They can be visited on foot, by car, or by boat. The contrast between the red rocks and the turquoise water creates a breathtaking landscape, a must-see!
The Needles of Bavella
1 hour and 45 minutes from Bonifacio, the Needles of Bavella are worth a visit, especially for mountain lovers. Many hiking trails venture into these needles, the highest of which rises to an altitude of 900 meters. Although the GR20 also passes through here, other easier trails are also accessible, offering something for every type of hiker.
Palombaggia Beach
Just over 10 km from Porto-Vecchio, in the south of Corsica, you can enjoy Palombaggia Beach. This natural protected site has not gained a reputation as one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe for nothing: with its fine sand, turquoise water, and few umbrella pines, it has all the makings of a postcard scenery!
Limiting to three must-see places is not easy when the island is full of equally paradisiacal spots. The best thing to do is to visit!
