The village of Saint Martin Vésubie hosted the 3rd JCI Challenge organized by the Junior Chamber International Nice Metropolitan Area (Jeune Chambre Économique Métropole Niçoise). This sports challenge brought together members of the Junior Chamber International from across the five continents, representing 15 countries including Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Morocco, Tunisia, South Africa, India, the USA, and Australia.
The goal was to promote the Nice metropolitan area and raise funds to purchase mosquito nets dedicated to fighting malaria as part of the “Nothing But Nets” humanitarian campaign led by the United Nations Foundation, whose director Chris HELFRICH made a special trip to Saint Martin Vésubie to accept the donations collected by the JCI of the Nice Metropolitan Area.
The principle is to send mosquito nets to countries affected by malaria, with a unit price of $10 (approximately €8), which covers their purchase, transportation, and training for the families who will use them. Each mosquito net can protect a family of four people.
For two days, the participants of the JCI Challenge 2013 competed in teams of two in various events such as the “bike & run” race, a tandem mountain bike obstacle course, laser shooting, a nighttime orientation run in the village of Saint Martin Vésubie, and, finally, an orientation race in the wilderness at Venanson.
A JCI Nice Metropolitan Area partners’ village was set up in the square of Saint Martin Vésubie to welcome participants and donors as part of this enthusiastic initiative.
Thanks to the commitment of the various participants in this sports challenge and the donations collected during these two days, the Junior Chamber International Nice Metropolitan Area will be able to fund 225 mosquito nets for the “Nothing But Nets” campaign.
