Christian Estrosi has just held a press conference to announce that he “will not increase local taxes for the coming year”… This is a commitment that is notably lacking in ambition according to the president of the PRG 06.
According to him, the advent of intercommunality (creation of the community of agglomeration in 2002) and its empowerment (transformation into an urban community in 2009, then into a metropolis in 2012) led to a massive transfer of the most important competences of the city of Nice to an intermunicipal cooperation establishment with its own taxation.
According to Jean-Christophe Picard: โClearly, the management by the same authority of the competences transferred by the 46 municipalities of the metropolis should have generated substantial economies of scale.
In addition, the pooling of services between the city of Nice and the metropolis, launched in 2010, continues to strengthen. Here too, this new organization should have led to a significant reduction in operating expenses.โ
And to conclude: โLogically, it is not the maintenance of current local tax rates that we should be announcing… but their reduction!โ
