On Wednesday, October 13, 2010, in Paris, Jean-Michel Galy, Municipal Councillor, Sub-delegate for Senior Citizenship, Vice-President of the Communal Centre for Social Action, received the national award for cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants for the general policy that the city conducts in favor of seniors.

The following actions were particularly distinguished:

The living environment: Implementation of a wide range of activities so that seniors enjoy a dynamic and rewarding retirement.

Through the creation of:

– The Senior Citizen Trophy;
– Seniors in Nice, Mediterranean Memories;
– The NiceDance program;
– StarSeniorS;
– The Nice Plus Senior card;
– The Seniors Associations/City of Nice partnership;
– Cyberseniors.

Services and gerontechnologies: Development of gerontechnologies and urban space planning.

By implementing:

– The gerontechnology platform: CLIC / CRONOSS 06;
– The IDAMS at-home project: Innovate, Develop Medical-social support;
– The project: 4S (Saint Roch, Sport, Health, Seniors), which the City develops in connection with the University Hospital, the University, and the associative network, an innovative project aimed at creating an urban environment that promotes mobility for seniors, establishes a walking route with personalized coaching, and generates social connections.

Last February 2, the city of Nice was distinguished by receiving the “Aging Well – Living Together” label in partnership with the Association of French Mayors (AMF) and the Parliamentary Association “Aging Together.”

This new distinction from the National Cities Competition only strengthens a policy whose aim is to enable all seniors in Nice to thrive in their city.
