Jean-Yves Mestre, Nina Papa, and Amaryllis this week at La Note Bleue.

This week, La Note Bleue welcomes guitarist and singer Jean-Yves Mestre. His playing resonates with the bossa-nova tradition of great composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Chico Buarque, Joao Bosco, Gilberto Gil, Baden Powell, and Joao Donato… Accompanied by the warm, typically Brazilian voice of Nina Papa, the duo sings a sunny and enthusiastic saudade. An authentic journey through Brazil from the sixties to today. Afterwards, La Note Bleue offers a unique appointment with the first stage performance of the quintet Amaryllis, the new band formed by Christian Bailet (bassist and leader of the group Isotop). Comprising entirely of atypical compositions, the pieces are built around melodic themes, borrowing from the language of jazz, spontaneity, and bold improvisation. The whole is mixed with Latin rhythms, funky sounds, and sometimes even rock… We are indeed talking about jazz fusion, a gentle and smooth fusion. No need for technical prowess; the music is accessible and understandable.
