Joan Miró honored at the Maeght Foundation

Latest News

The Maeght Foundation hosts, until November 17, an exceptional exhibition on the work of the surrealist artist Joan Miró.

The exhibition “Joan Miró. Beyond Painting.” brings together 200 graphic works of this major artist, who greatly contributed to the creation of the Foundation alongside Marguerite and Aimé Maeght, as well as the architect Josep Luís Sert. The historical director of the Fundació Joan Miró of Barcelona, Rosa Maria Malet, is the curator of the exhibition, with the majority of the works presented coming from a donation made by Adrien Maeght. He worked with MIRÓ in his ARTE printing workshops. Visitors can discover models, posters, original lithographs, printing plates, and even previously unseen gouaches.

Joan Miró was born in Barcelona in 1893 and remains today a proud representative of the surrealist movement, drawing inspiration from the unconscious and dreamlike to create his works. Towards the end of his life, he moved away from the political dimension of the movement and turned his interest to more realistic painting and monumental sculptures covered in ceramics. Joan Miró passed away on Christmas Day in 1983.
