Johanne Lindskog has just been appointed interim director of the MAMAC in Nice while awaiting a new recruitment. Hรฉlรจne Guenin is leaving the position after nine years to join the Yves Klein Foundation.
The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, announced the appointment of Johanne Lindskog as interim director of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC) in Nice. She will serve in this capacity while awaiting the recruitment of a new director. Meanwhile, she will maintain her role as head of the Museum of Fine Arts in Nice.
This appointment follows the departure of Hรฉlรจne Guenin, who led the MAMAC for nine years. She will join the Yves Klein Foundation, an important partner of the museum and the city of Nice. During her tenure, she oversaw significant developments at the museum, notably through a program recognized on both the national and international art scene.
Hรฉlรจne Guenin expressed her gratitude to the municipality and her team. “These nine years at the helm of the MAMAC have been incredibly enriching. I thank the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, for the great trust he has placed in me over these years. Thanks to this trust, and with the enthusiastic and unwavering commitment of the MAMAC team, I was able to develop the museum, reinvent it, and make it shine while taking care to cultivate its rich history, unique identity, and collections. I am deeply attached to Nice, to its wonderful art scene, its turbulent and inspiring history. I am delighted that through my future roles I will be able to continue to maintain a natural and strong connection with this city, which was the artistic cradle of Yves Klein and the territory for many of his major experiments.”
An โambitious programโ
The mayor of Nice praised the work accomplished by Hรฉlรจne Guenin. “Hรฉlรจne Guenin has made this museum one of the most imaginative cultural players in Nice. Even though it is with a heavy heart that we see her leave, it is also with the certainty of having her by our side again when, in 2029, a transformed MAMAC will reopen its doors. I send her my best wishes for success in her new roles. I thank Johanne Lindskog for agreeing to take on the interim role until the recruitment of the future director who will accompany the transformation period with an ambitious off-site program and will continue to drive innovation with mediation initiatives and educational projects.”
Hรฉlรจne Guenin will take up her new roles in early spring. She has been appointed curator of the Biennale of Arts and the Ocean alongside Jean-Jacques Aillagon.
