Joint anti-migrant motion in the PACA Region: FN and LR, allies for a day…

Latest News

We were already aware of the permeability between the right-wing electorate (in the “hard” Sarkozy version, which is largely the majority in the region) and the far-right, but this is a step forward towards actual interchangeability: the majority of The Republicans (and the centrists of the UDI!) and the National Front have voted almost unanimously (except for one abstention) on a motion that “opposes by all legal means the establishment of mini-Calais jungles.”

The osmosis was such that Marion Le Pen accused Christian Estrosi of “plagiarism.” In fact, the FN had announced a motion that would prohibit the funding of community associations. This was refused by the LR: these associations are useful electoral agents, and it’s important to maintain good relations with their leaders.

But aside from that, the philosophy of the two motions was the same, and beyond the circumlocutions, the message is clear: they don’t want it.

The Socialist Party, absent from the chamber for not having participated in the second round of regional elections to avoid Marion Le Pen’s probable victory over Christian Estrosi, reacted sharply: “By voting with the National Front on this motion, the president of the Paca Region has deserted the field of values, ethics, and republican sense,” accusing the right of “sharing themes and theses” with the far-right.

Mr. Estrosi “has turned his back on those who believe there is a difference between the Republicans—the real ones—and an extreme right that is not,” continues the PS.

And yet, they had placed their hopes on the social Gaullism of Christian Estrosi…

According to the prefecture, 471 migrants, including 215 minors who left Calais during the dismantling of the jungle, have arrived in the Paca region. They are expected to number around 1,000 in total.

As a reminder, the reception of refugees is a responsibility of the State.

To conclude, we recall an excerpt from Pope Francis’s speech at the European Parliament: “Likewise, it is necessary to face the migration issue together. We cannot tolerate the Mediterranean Sea becoming a vast cemetery!”

Yet, they all claim to be good Catholics…
