Judo World Championships: Loïc PIETRI, the victory of talent, tenacity, and intelligence

Latest News

The Marseillaise resonated in the Maracanazinho to celebrate Loïc Piétri’s first world title. The Nice-native had a remarkable day, ending in pain against the Georgian Avtandili Tchrikishvili.

At 23, Pietri confirmed his talent and brought France its first title in these World Championships.

In 2011, Piétri finished 5th in the World Championships in Paris. In the spring, his potential was glimpsed with a bronze medal.

A pure product of the training in Nice with a very present and attentive father in his rise, Loïc Pietri confirms the hopes placed in him by bringing the first gold medal to the French camp at these Worlds.

Patrick Allemand, 1st Vice-President of the PACA Region, immediately praised this feat:

“I am delighted with the magnificent victory of the Nice-native Loic Pietri at the World Judo Championships in Rio.

It’s the victory of talent, tenacity, and intelligence.

Talent because he has had it to spare since very young, and he confirms it at only 22 years old.

Tenacity because he had to face injuries, his non-selection for the London Olympics and managed to come back through hard work.

Intelligence in his career choices because he knew how to leave Nice despite his attachment to his city when he felt it was essential to take the final step that led him to the highest level.”
