July 14: A Tribute Under High Security

Latest News

Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice, along with Georges-Franรงois Leclerc, Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, unveiled yesterday the proceedings for the tribute to the victims of the July 14 attack, which will be conducted under heavy security.

According to the plan defined by the City of Nice, the Prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes, and the “Promenade des Anges” association, the ceremony will take place in four stages:

The day will begin at 9 a.m. with a participatory tribute at Quai des Etats-Unis. All those who wish can place colored plaques (according to a pre-established arrangement), intended to create a message, which will be revealed around 8 p.m.

A parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Place Massรฉna, with the presence of Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic. Many dignitaries will also be in attendance, possibly including former heads of state.

The parade will be directly followed by the municipal tribute, still at Place Massรฉna, with a minute of silence in memory of the victims. Emmanuel Macron will meet privately with the families afterward.

The day will conclude with a tribute concert on the water mirror of the Promenade du Paillon, ending with another minute of silence at 10:34 p.m. and a release of balloons.

To attend the ceremony, it is recommended to arrive by tram or on foot, as the part of the city involved will be completely sealed off with an important security setup.
As the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes reminded us, “security on July 14 will primarily serve the event.”
