As every year, the city of Nice held its traditional July 14th parade in the late afternoon. It was an opportunity to salute and thank the schools and military bases of the region in front of a large gathered audience.
At precisely 6 PM, the commander of the troops, Colonel Luc Laine, gave the ceremony’s go-ahead. The July 14th parade then began with the passage of ground troops. For 30 minutes, the Air Force, the Army, and the mobile troops paraded before the eyes of the region’s main political figures.
In the front row were Adolphe Colrat, Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, Patrick Allemand, Vice-President of the PACA Region, Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice and President of the Cรดte dโAzur Metropolis, Eric Ciotti, President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, and many elected officials and personalities.
The ceremony commemorating the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, was quite classic. It began with the reading of the July 14th history, followed by the salute to the flag.
July 14 is also the day when numerous medals or titles are awarded. This year, 8 men had the honor of receiving a decoration. The ground parade lasted about 25 minutes, with the grand finale featuring the double passage of 2 Alpha Jets over the Promenade des Anglais.
Notably, the festivities for the centenary of the First World War began.
For the occasion, the French Federation of Groups for the Conservation of Military Vehicles concluded the mobile parade with trucks, vintage cars, and a tank.
After the parade, everyone gathered at Villa Massena for a cocktail in honor of the troops and delegations who paraded on the Promenade des Anglais.
Fireworks concluded this national holiday evening.
