July 14th Attack: Remember and Rise Up

Latest News

Taking part in the minute of silence at the war memorial in Nice and throughout the country on Monday, July 18, is to join in the pain of all victims of barbarity. More than that, it is a way to hold our heads high. And to stand against fanaticism.

Now more than ever, the Press Club, an association that brings together nearly a hundred volunteer journalists, remains committed to the values that formed the foundational basis of the National Council of the Resistance. Respect for press ethics, independence, and freedom of expression.

It is this very liberty and tolerance that the killers of Charlie targeted in January 2015, becoming the terrifying forerunners of a dreadful series of attacks that continue to expand. The massacres of last November 13 in Paris will never fade from the collective memory. The attack in Nice by the “crazy truck” on the Promenade des Anglais adds to these tragedies.

All these victims of terrorism leave us with a message: to resist blind violence. And to hold our heads high.

Perhaps never since 1944 has the duty to inform while respecting ethics seemed so imperative. Since November 2015, the Press Club 06, which has participated in organizing six university conferences on radical Islamism and terrorism, intends to remain active in this area of research.

In these days of unspeakable sadness, the Press Club joins in the pain of the victims.
