On July 14, 2007, the Republic Picnic will for the first time in Nice aim to unite as many people as possible, citizens of France or elsewhere, residents or passing tourists… on the occasion of the National Holiday. Around the republican values (fraternity, liberty, and equality) and all over France, thousands of people are preparing to experience together the civic event of the summer.
After the traditional military parade in the morning, the end of the day will be dedicated to celebration. This exceptional event, organized by the Nice Tourism and Congress Office, is structured around three main highlights:
6 PM-9 PM: Republic Picnic on the Centenary public beach. Everyone comes with their basket, in a spirit of sharing and harmony, and settles on the large tablecloths spread out on the beach.
9 PM to Midnight: Grand ball on the Promenade des Anglais, facing the centenary monument, animated by the orchestra “Baie des Anges” (intermission during the fireworks display).
10 PM to 10:20 PM: Fireworks display on the Baie des Anges off the centenary monument.
This citizen-driven and apolitical action is a simple yet meaningful act: the hundreds of thousands of people who are preparing to gather in July are inventing a new republican ritual that is becoming a staple in the landscape of unmissable summer events.
Practically, the Republic Picnic aims to bring together, around the same tablecloth, all picnickers who want to share a meal and create a space for meetings and exchanges. Participants, equipped with their provisions, will be able to settle from 6 PM on the beach where an RTL2 DJ will be entertaining the event. Throughout the day, picnic booklets will be available on the Promenade des Anglais under the tent near the totems.
