June 12 is a date to mark in your calendars. Indeed, this Sunday will be the first round of the legislative elections aimed at electing the 577 deputies who will represent the French at the National Assembly.

What are the legislative elections?

They take place every five years. They aim to elect by direct universal suffrage the 577 deputies of the National Assembly. As a reminder, the National Assembly discusses and votes on bills and proposals.

Each deputy is elected within a constituency.

For this new term, 6,293 candidates are in the running.
You can discover the list of candidates for your constituency via the website of the Ministry of the Interior or by clicking here.

The Alpes-Maritimes has nine constituencies with about ten candidates from various political backgrounds in each. Five years ago, the majority of deputies from Alpes-Maritimes came from the Les Républicains party. This year, the situation is changing as new parties have emerged, such as the new left-wing alliance (NUPES) led nationally by Jean-Luc Mélenchon or Horizon, which has as president the former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe.

Following this first stage, the candidates who manage to stand out will face off again on June 19. On this day, you will know the final list of your representatives for the next five years.
