The Fête de la Musique, a large, popular, free event open to everyone, has celebrated live music since its creation and highlights the diversity of musical practices, as well as all musical genres.
What is the Fête de la Musique about? This large popular event returns every year on June 21. It welcomes all musicians, whether amateurs or professionals, while being completely free for the audience.
This year marks its 34th anniversary: it’s getting older, but remains as youthful as ever.
For its 34th edition, the Ministry of Culture and Communication has chosen to further honor values of openness to different cultures, as well as those of sharing and togetherness, by choosing the theme “Living Together with Music.”
It is also an encouraging event that inspires those who are unfamiliar with music to discover it and embark on learning a musical practice themselves.
Since its inception, the success of the Fête shows no signs of waning, and in 2014, 17,000 concerts brought together more than 10 million people around music in France. The scale of the Fête de la Musique is such that more than 120 countries and 700 cities worldwide celebrated it, turning it into an iconic international musical event.
