What is the MANCA festival in 2016? The thirty-seventh edition of the MANCA festival should bear the subtitle: “The Theory of Strings.” Indeed, despite the decrease in public funding, the common thread that binds program quality to audience enjoyment has been maintained.
The CIRM, organizer of the MANCA, shines on both the National and International stage. It fully collaborates with joy and enthusiasm in the fields of training and research for the magnificent project that is the brand new Université Côte d’Azur.
For François Paris, director of the CIRM and the MANCA: “The foundations of our iceberg are solid, they rest on the professionalism, expertise, and artistic legitimacy of our team. Therefore, we will do little for this festival, little but very well!”
The event’s kick-off will be given this evening at the Marc Chagall National Museum, at 8 PM.
On the program, the cello and technology recital, solo I, performed by cellist Séverine Ballon.*
This concert presents works inspired by the cellist (Bedrossian, Blondeau) and two commissions by Mstislav Rostropovich (Berio and Lutoslawski) for the 70th anniversary of patron Paul Sacher in 1976, which have since become major works of the repertoire.
The MANCA present at this opening concert a creation by the Italian composer Francesca Verunelli, whose electronic part was realized in the CIRM studios with Camille Giuglaris.
