L1: Nice falls to Toulouse

Latest News

This Sunday afternoon, OGC Nice visited the pitch of Toulouse. With Monaco’s defeat on Friday at the start of the 24th day of Ligue 1, the Eagles had the opportunity to climb back onto the podium.

One thing is certain, Toulouse is the opponent that Nice fares best against away in the championship. Out of the last 18 trips for the Gym in Toulouse, Nice has been defeated only four times. The last defeat for the Eagles in the Pink City dates back to November 28, 2015. Under the direction of Claude Puel, they lost (2-0) during the 15th day of Ligue 1. The men of Francesco Farioli had the chance to continue this tradition, especially since Nice has been seeking a win for four matches.

At the Stadium, Toulouse faced a team in doubt. Having fallen off the podium last weekend, Nice traveled with the aim of finding their way back to success. And it was off to a great start. As early as the 8th minute of the game, Terem Moffi opened the score. In the right place at the right time, his perfectly positioned poacher’s finish paid off. A good high recovery by Pablo Rosario, Evann Guessand on the right shot, but his strike was deflected by Rasmus Nicolaisen, then stopped by Guillaume Restes. Costa attempted a clearance that ended up at Moffiโ€™s feet. This was the 7th goal of the number 9 this season. Toulouse trailed 0-1 at halftime.

Nice sank in the second half

When returning to the pitch, the Toulouse players immediately put pressure on the Nice team. The Eagles relied, as they often do this season, on the saves of their goalkeeper Marcin Bulka. The Polish keeper made two impressive saves. One in the 50th minute from a side-foot strike by Yann Gboho. The next, an outstanding reflex save in the 59th minute from a header by Stijn Spierings. Unfortunately, the Nice goalkeeper could not perform miracles. At the 65th minute, he conceded Toulouseโ€™s equalizing goal from Thijs Dallinga. Toulouse took the lead shortly after, in the 69th minute thanks to Yann Gboho. Trailing, the Eagles could not come back to the score. They suffered another 2-1 defeat and lost a place in the standings. Nice is now in the 5th position in the championship. Lille, having won their match yesterday against Reims, secured 4th place. Toulouse is in 10th place.

375 supporters made the trip. Their support did not allow Nice to reclaim the podium. The Gym has not won for five games. A rough patch for the Maralpins who will attempt to secure a victory next week. The appointment is at home, at the Allianz Riviera, against Montpellier, on Friday, March 8 at 9 PM.
