The traditional international folklore festival of Nice “La Farandole” makes a grand return this year, from August 7 to 11, 2024.

The Farandole, International Folklore Festival of Nice, is one of the oldest and most iconic cultural events in Europe. It celebrates the richness and diversity of worldwide traditions, highlighting folk dances, music, and costumes. Organized every two years in partnership with the Collectif des Arts Traditionnels – Lou Cat, this festival is a true showcase of international cultures.

For its 65th edition, La Farandole will welcome troupes from Brazil, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, the USA, and Wallis and Futuna. For five days, from August 7 to 11, festival-goers will be able to enjoy a multitude of shows and activities in Nice. The municipalities of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis will also serve as the stage for this Festival.

Two evenings at the Théâtre de Verdure

The evenings at the Théâtre de Verdure will take place on Saturday, August 10 at 8:30 PM with the show “On the Pan-American Road,” featuring the “Ballet da Cultura Negra” from Brazil as well as the “American Folk Ensemble” from the USA.

Similarly, on Sunday, August 11 at 8:30 PM, the closing gala will present performances from the “Ballet da Cultura Negra” (Brazil), “Naz” (Kazakhstan), “Ipag” (Philippines), “American Folk Ensemble” (USA), and “Ofafolau” (Wallis and Futuna), accompanied by international stands and on-site catering. Tickets are 6 euros, free for those under 18 and students.

Activities throughout the metropolis

On Wednesday, August 7, a dance initiation with the group from the Philippines, “Ipag,” will be held in the gardens of the Arènes de Cimiez from 3 PM to 5 PM. Similarly, on Thursday, August 8, a parade of troupes will depart from City Hall at 6 PM to reach the Promenade du Paillon. Then an opening show featuring all the troupes will take place at Saint-François Square at 7 PM.

Five villages will have the chance to participate in the Folklore Festival: Levens, Belvédère, Saint-Jeannet, La Gaude, as well as Saint-André-de-la-Roche, Châteauneuf-Villevieille, and Drap. Free traditional dance shows and activities will be offered there.

On August 9 at 6 PM in Belvédère with Wallis and Futuna (“Ofafolau”). At 7 PM in Saint-Jeannet with Kazakhstan (“Naz”). La Gaude will take on the colors of Brazil (“Ballet da Cultura Negra”) at 7 PM, as well as Levens, which will host the Philippines (“Ipag”) and the USA (“American Folk Ensemble”) at 9 PM.
