Every child whose letter or email reaches Santa Claus’s Secretariat before December 23 will receive a playful response card from Santa Claus. For this year 2014, Santa Claus is returning to the traditional format of a letter, accompanied by a coloring page and a dot-to-dot game.
The response card, specially issued each year, is delivered to the young correspondents by the 90,000 mail carriers of La Poste. It was in 1962 that La Poste initiated this free service of a response to all letters addressed to Santa Claus.
How to write to Santa Claus
The letter to Santa Claus is a didactic endeavor, as it is generally the first letter written by children in their learning of writing.
By handwritten letter
Simply write “Santa Claus” clearly on the envelope and be sure to indicate your name, first name, and full address on the back of the envelope to receive a reply.
By email
The child logs onto the address www.laposte.fr/pere-noel, clicks on the icon “I write to Santa Claus” and then follows the guidance by filling in the requested information. It’s simple and fun.
At school: a collective learning tool
Schools are also invited to participate in the “Santa Claus’s Mail” operation. This first writing exercise, a moment of individual or collective creativity, is often motivated by the response from Santa Claus. Each child in the class will receive a reply, contained in a common envelope specially designed by La Poste and sent directly to the school.
Written or drawn, all ideas and fantasies are welcome!
It is recommended to send your letter before December 20 because Santa Claus’s Secretariat closes its doors on December 23.
