Last day of Sidaction: call for donations

Latest News

Sidaction, an annual charity event broadcasted on radio and television, will conclude this Sunday amidst a global decrease in donations to associations and an increase in “misconceptions” about AIDS.

The Sidaction association last Wednesday published a survey indicating that 21% of 15-24-year-olds mistakenly believe that the virus can be transmitted by kissing someone who is HIV-positive, which is 6% more than in 2015.

Last year, Sidaction concluded with a total of 4.07 million euros in pledged donations.

“A potential decrease in donations, which we have already observed in recent years, worries us. It is the case for the associative sector as a whole, and it is extremely concerning,” according to Françoise Barré-Sinoussi.

The association A.c.sida Act Against AIDS & the LGBT Côte d’Azur Center are organizing the “Vivre” exhibition. Opening this Sunday at 5 PM at the LGBT Côte d’Azur Center, 123 Rue de Roquebillière.

“In this traveling photo exhibition, interspersed with the feelings of aging patients with HIV, everyone will find a message of hope, a message of love. This is what we wanted to convey to you with simplicity,” reads the invitation card.

A collection is organized in LGBT festive establishments where donation boxes will be available.

The LGBT Côte d’Azur Center has also co-signed a letter this week alongside Sidaction, Act-Up, and Aides, addressed to parliamentarians.

This letter aims to inform and alert them to the potential consequences of the provisions outlined in the forthcoming “Asylum and Immigration” law, which threatens to undermine the situation of sick foreigners, especially those affected by HIV/AIDS.
