This Saturday, the final Illuminated Carnival Parade took place at Place Masséna in Nice. At the end of the parade, the traditional burning of His Majesty Carnival marked the conclusion of the festivities and the reign of the “King of Animals.”
After its cancellation in 2021, the 2022 Carnival celebrated its reunion with the public. As the most significant winter event on the French Riviera, the Nice Carnival is also one of the three largest carnivals in the world, with nearly 30 million in economic benefits (before capacity reductions).
This year, nearly 107,000 spectators attended the events. Fifteen carnival floats and seventeen flower battle floats paid tribute to animals. Nearly 40 troupes from France and Europe also performed at Place Masséna.
At the end of the illuminated carnival parade, Christian Estrosi also announced the theme for the next carnival: “On the occasion of its 150th anniversary and to honor the inscription of Nice ‘Winter Resort Town of the Riviera’ on the UNESCO World Heritage list, the theme for the 2023 Nice Carnival will be the treasures of our world heritage.”
Join us from February 10th to 26th, 2023, for the “Nice Carnival, King of the Treasures of the World.”
