Throughout the summer – from June 27 to August 20 – children in the Alpes-Maritimes could discover sports thanks to a very special caravan.
The sports caravan traveled the roads of the Alpes-Maritimes to raise awareness among young people about sports practice. Organized by the departmental Olympic and sports committee of the Alpes-Maritimes in partnership with the departmental council and the departmental directorate of social cohesion, this large free sports initiation event once again attracted many young people this year.
Yesterday, it was in Golfe Juan that the 24th and final stage of the 2018 summer tour took place.
From 2:30 PM to 7:30 PM, six athletes from the CDOS06 hope team – Albane Deage (swimming), Alessia Zarbo (athletics), Amélie Decroyere (karate), Florian Zawadka (rifle shooting), May-Ly Picard (karate), Rania Drid (judo) – were present at the Theater of the Sea, in the presence of many curious onlookers.
Athletics, boxing, fencing, trampoline, or even field hockey… Children aged 4 to 14 could try all the disciplines they wanted, free of charge and with qualified instructors. Good humor and laughter were part of the program, with the opportunity for these young regional talents to make themselves known to the general public. The sports caravan aims to transmit the Olympic values of respect, friendship, and excellence.
The trampoline and field hockey, favorites among the kids, were once again a big hit. But judo and karate seem to have sparked interest – like Léo, 8 years old, who has already asked his mother to enroll him in judo for the new school year in September.
For 15 years, the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee of the Alpes-Maritimes, in partnership with the Departmental Council, has been implementing this project. This year, it particularly aims to promote women’s sports, in anticipation of the 2019 Women’s World Cup.
The international event will be held partly in Nice, with six matches, lasting one month. From June 7 to July 7.
