As the vacation departures approach, the city of Nice is launching a major awareness campaign against the abandonment of animals starting today.
Posters and leaflets will be visible throughout the city to raise awareness among the largest number of people: in annex town halls, local centers, libraries, community centers, veterinarians, tramways…
The goals of this campaign are to make pet owners aware of adopting animals and the consequences it entails on a daily basis. Indeed, adoption is a thoughtful act, and it is important to be aware of the commitments it implies and to thoroughly assess the changes it can bring to everyday life.
Provide all the tools to properly organize their companion’s vacation.
For reference, abandoning a pet is considered an act of cruelty punishable by two years of imprisonment and a 30,000-euro fine (Article 521-1 of the penal code). So, don’t forget: adoption is an option, assuming it is an obligation!
With 61.6 million pets, France has the largest pet population in the European Union. More than half of the households own a dog, a cat, a goldfish, or a rodent.
Every year, in our country, 100,000 animals are abandoned. 60,000 of them are abandoned during the summer vacation departures…
The azure city [Nice] has about 130,000 pets. Around 500 of them are abandoned each year.
