As part of its policy to combat illiteracy and promote literary culture, Raoul Mille, Municipal Councillor delegated to Literature, the Fight Against Illiteracy, organizes meetings between writers and students.
This initiative, titled “Reading for All,” continues this year with the presentation of its program in the presence of writers Patrick Besson, Didier Van Cauwelaert, Bruno de Cessole, Fariba Hachtroudi, Aurรฉlie de Gubernatis, and Bernard Deloupy.
The opportunity to also review the achievements of last year’s operations.
Initially reserved for primary school students in Nice, this initiative, which has been very successful, has gradually expanded to include secondary schools, high schools, and then the municipalities of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Urban Community.
By meeting living authors, students discover literature and the love of books. This action also enables, especially for an audience from less privileged neighborhoods, to learn to read through books, to discover the magic of words and imagination, something that is difficult for them in daily life due to a lack of mastery of the French language.
These actions have also been developed for partner associations of the “Reading for All” program, outside school hours, as well as for the wide public of neighborhood libraries.
In 2011, the Lenval & L’Archet 2 hospitals’ school welcomed two writers.
This year, an agreement with the writing workshop of the Nice prison will allow the intervention of the writer Renรฉ Frรฉgni, a specialist in writing workshops at the Baumettes prison in Marseille.
This year’s event will renew its major short story contest, whose theme will be unveiled at the press conference.
The best short stories will be published by the City of Nice, and the young authors will sign their books at the City’s stand during the 2012 Book Festival.
