Under the spring sunshine, the President of the Alpes-Maritimes department, Charles-Ange Ginesy, proudly announced this Tuesday, April 5, the upcoming opening of the Azurean outdoor sports festival.
“Hiking, mountain biking, climbing, but also kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, or even paragliding, trail running, or zip-lining, our territory is a paradise for athletes of all levels,” in addition to a varied program, the events and experiences offered will be entirely free and accessible to the general public.
Also present at the inauguration, Alexandra Borchio Fortimp, the president of the Côte d’Azur regional tourism committee, emphasized the idyllic setting represented by the Azurean territory: “the Côte d’Azur elevates all activities and nature-side emotions.”
Initially planned for 2020, the festival could not take place due to the restrictions in force at the time. “With the Covid crisis, we’ve seen just how much sporting activity was missed,” added Charles-Ange Ginesy.
This year, the outdoor festival will be based on 4 pillars:
– cultural events with more than twenty exhibitions, films, conferences, and shows;
– competitions at national and international levels to spotlight athletes;
– an exhibition at the Verdun square in Cannes with over 50 exhibitors;
– and more than 650 sports experiences to discover throughout the Alpes-Maritimes territory, suitable for all levels (kids, families, well-being, discovery, intense, and extreme).
To organize such a large-scale free event, the department could rely on the unwavering support of its many partners: associations, federations, departmental committees, and municipalities.
Many high-level athletes such as Sébastien Camus, Germain Grangier, and Maxime Montaggioni were also present at the conference and will act as ambassadors during the festival.
