On Wednesday, April 13, 2022, the photography contest organized by the city of Nice and reserved for seniors aged 55 and over was launched. Participants have until May 31 to send up to two photos to an email address specifically created for the occasion.
To ensure maximum fairness, three categories were created based on the type of cameras used: digital, film, and smartphone.
The 20 participants were welcomed to the Promenade du Paillon by Ms. Franรงoise Monier, deputy mayor in charge of seniors and intergenerational relations, along with a photographer who has been practicing for about twenty years.
Ms. Monier first gave an encouraging speech and also announced the theme, which will be:
โThe unexpected treasures of heritage: architecture, green city, urban cultural works, UNESCO world heritageโ
This theme aims to rediscover the city of Nice for seniors and encourage them to view their daily lives from a different perspective.
When the deputy mayor was asked about the age selection of participants, she replied: โNice has more than 100,000 seniors, and our goal is to break isolation by including them in the city’s active life. Photography is not about age, but rather about sensitivity.โ
After the speech, participants received numerous tips on how to express their viewpoint through a photo. This was followed by a visit to the old town of Nice to find locations to photograph in order to implement the advice given.
โThis workshop allows me to create connections. I have always been passionate about photography, and now that I’m retired, I can fully enjoy it.โ – Michelle, 67 years old.
The contest results will be announced in June 2022, with one winner per category, and each of their photos will be exhibited.
