This Friday at 9 a.m., a drone operation to sterilize seagull eggs will take place on the esplanade of the MAMAC in Nice.
This operation is conducted in close collaboration with Drone06 and will last until May 31st.
For several years, the “Animal in the City” delegation has been continuously innovating to regulate the seagull population, whose expansion is the cause of numerous nuisances (attacks on small pets, nesting on private terraces and building roofs, noise pollution, dirtiness, aggressiveness, etc.).
Since 2016, the technique used is the sterilization of seagull eggs through the use of drones. This method regulates the number of birds under prefectural authorization and therefore complies with strict rules.
The drone sprays a sterilizing gel on the eggs that, by opacifying the egg, prevents hatching. This product is not toxic to nature or humans. The drone flies under close supervision for a few minutes after a ground preparation lasting 30 minutes to 1 hour.
