The city has unveiled a whole range of activities designed to promote social connections and combat the isolation of seniors in Nice during the months of July and August.
A press conference was organized on the Promenade du Paillon, near the Masséna statue. In the presence of Philippe Pradal, Mayor of Nice, and Christian Estrosi, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, Jean-Michel Galy, Deputy for Senior Citizenship, paid tribute “to those who share our age and who deserve honors.”
Philippe Pradal welcomed the initiative and said he was “very happy to meet the seniors for the first time as mayor.” As for Christian Estrosi, he was delighted with “this wonderful moment of meeting” and emphasized that one of the strengths of the city of Nice is “its ability to innovate,” not without reminding that he “recently inaugurated a hub of connected start-ups on Rue Delvalle.”
He then offered a scientific analysis by declaring that “a child born today could live up to 170 years.” Laughter ensued in the crowd. A senior quipped, “for what?” which spurred more laughter.
“The city of Nice has the highest birth rate in France,” declared the former (or perhaps not) mayor of the city. He then added, “the city had 99 centenarians in 2000. Today there are nearly 400. We must ensure these centenarians are supported.”
The summer program for seniors includes conferences, museum visits, competitions, and group outings. You can find the full program just below this article.
