Lead shots at Ariane nursery school: how can it come to this?

Latest News

Yesterday morning, the students of the Ariane-Mûriers primary and nursery school returned to their establishment after the intense emotion caused last Friday by the pellet gun shots directed at their playground. A psychological support unit had been set up.

The 13-year-old teenager who was apprehended on Sunday morning in connection with the pellet gun shots at the Ariane-Mûriers nursery school in Nice admitted to being the one who fired the shots that slightly injured two young girls in the back and head on Friday.

The Departmental Security still needs to determine whether this was an accidental or deliberate act.

There remains an unsettling question to be answered: why would a child of this age, from a so-called “typical” family, commit an act that could have had serious consequences for both the victims and the perpetrator?

Stupidity, carelessness, imitation, emulation, challenge? The family context seems unrelated to any motive, with the father stating that no one noticed what was happening.

The fact remains that these young and immature individuals are increasingly exposed to unfiltered sources of information: television, computers, smartphones. Their fragility is thus compromised, leading to actions that are impossible to comprehend, not to mention the origin of the incidents allowing them to happen.

Is there not an educational model that needs urgent revision to regain control before it’s too late?
