This week, Franz-Olivier Giesbert will be speaking at schools, penitentiary institutions, and associations in the City of Nice.
Franz-Olivier Giesbert arrived in France at the age of three. After contributing to the literary page of Paris-Normandie, he joined Le Nouvel Observateur in 1971. He worked successively as a political journalist, senior reporter, Washington correspondent, head of the political section, and became the editorial director of the weekly magazine in 1985. In 1988, he was appointed editorial director of Le Figaro. From 1997, he hosted several literary or cultural programs and “Les Grandes questions” on France 5 until 2015. In 2000, he became the director of Le Point, a position he left in March 2014 but remained a columnist and editorial advisor for the magazine. Since 2017, he has been the editorial director of La Provence. Franz-Olivier Giesbert is a member of the jury for the Renaudot Prize, the Aujourd’hui Prize, the Prix du Quai des Orfèvres, etc.
He has published several novels, including “L’Affreux” (Grand Prix of the French Academy for novels 1992) and “La Souille” (Interallié Prize 1995), as well as several biographies including “François Mitterrand or The Temptation of History” (Aujourd’hui Prize 1977), and a narrative work: “L’Américain” (2004). More recently, he published “Chirac, Une vie” (Grand Prize for Political Biography 2016), “L’Arracheuse de dents” (Prix Récamier – March 2016), and “Belle d’amour” (Prix Terre des Templiers – June 2017).
