During the first round of the legislative elections in Menton, Jean-Claude GUIBAL led the vote with 29.56% of the votes, against Lydia SCHENARDI’s 24.61%. For this second round, the FN candidate did not stand a chance against the Mayor of the town.
Jean-Claude GUIBAL, Lydia SCHENARDI, Jean-Claude GUIBAL… The vote count was close, as was the number of votes for the two candidates for the position of Deputy. However, by 8:50 p.m., Jean-Claude GUIBAL had already widened the gap against his FN rival, garnering 41.07% of the votes, compared to 57.28%.
Out of the 20,478 registered voters in Menton, only 11,096 turned out to vote, a remarkable abstention rate in the town. A total of 1,153 null ballots were counted!
Despite this, Jean-Claude GUIBAL clinched victory by achieving a score of 57.85% of the vote, representing 5,752 votes, against Lydia SCHERNARDI’s 42.16%, equivalent to 4,199 votes.
An overwhelming victory for the current Mayor of Menton, who declared himself proud of having led in all polling stations in the city, except for the hamlet of Monti, which clearly favored the extremist candidate.
A victory “that prepares for the municipal elections,” exclaimed Jean-Claude GUIBAL standing on a table in front of a crowd of supporters chanting his name and applauding him.
While the left-wing party accused the Mayor of having “flirted with the FN,” he achieved a score that has clearly evolved in recent years and represents, at the regional level, a quarter of left-wing voters… For Jean-Claude GUIBAL, this means “that the PS has done no better than the FN, and has certainly done nothing to stop its rise, thank you Madame Gérard!”
He also noted that the majority of votes for Lydia SCHENARDI were due to the undermining work of former candidate Stéphane CHERKI, who, although he boasted of not influencing his voters to vote FN, “called everyone to invite them to vote for Madame SCHENARDI!”
A victory then for Jean-Claude GUIBAL to know that in Eze, stronghold of Stéphane CHERKI, the FN won against the UMP by only 1 vote difference…
The final word was from the entire campaign team of candidate Jean-Claude GUIBAL, who expressed being “extremely grateful” to all those who fought by his side, and thanks to whom he was able to win these elections, in a “difficult constituency.”
