Legislative elections: the PS 06 calls for a republican vote in the second round

Latest News

Xavier Garcia, the departmental secretary, spoke after the first round of legislative elections from which his party emerged wounded, with minimal scores.
He presents a grim assessment… For him, the rebuilding process will be long and hard.

The first round of the legislative elections has delivered its verdict, with the Socialist Party largely defeated. So, what should be done in the face of such a historic defeat?

For Xavier Garcia, the departmental secretary of the Socialist Party in Alpes-Maritimes, the party is marginalized, one could (or should?) say… moribund.

He explains: “The rebuilding will be long and hard. This result calls for an immediate reconstruction of our party on renewed foundations, but in fidelity to our values.

Among these values, the fight against far-right ideas will always be a pillar of our action. Therefore, in all constituencies where the National Front is still present, we urge our voters to defeat these candidates, just as we call to defeat Eric Ciotti and Michèle Tabarot. Their statements contribute to erasing the boundary between the republican right and the far right.

For the rest, our results and the political renewal that the French are calling for should bring us back to humility. The time for systematic party directives is over. We trust the voters who supported our candidates in the first round to make, in good conscience, the best choice next Sunday between the aspiration for renewal and a clannish system, worn out to the core.

Xavier Garcia, First Secretary of PS06
