For this fourth edition of the Mercan’Tour Classic Alpes-Maritimes, it is the local Lenny Martinez who wins the race.
Crossing 19 towns in the Alpes-Maritimes and covering nearly 170 kilometers was the requirement to reach the finish line. The Mercan’Tour Classic goes through four valleys of the Upper Nice Country, finishing at Valberg, which will host the 20th stage of the Tour de France in a month. In three editions, the Maralpine race has established itself as an essential race for the best climbers, thanks to its course that presents significant challenges.
In the end, it took 4 hours and 49 minutes for Lenny Martinez from Cannes (Groupama-FDJ), only 20 years old, to win the Mercan’Tour Classic Alpes-Maritimes. After crashing earlier in the race within the peloton, he still managed to cross the finish line first. We witnessed a great battle with Clément Berthet (Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale), who finished second. He was closely followed by Belgian Harm Vanhoucke from Lotto Dstny. For Nice Métropole Côte d’Azur, the race was much more difficult as all seven riders did not finish the race.
