At the Théâtre de Grasse, on Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10, 2011, at 8:30 PM, this sea monster synonymous with Chaos visits us to the tunes of “Endgame.”

A universal meditation carried by an original sound creation and a choreographic writing stretched to the extreme, tense, sometimes theatrical, to convey the feeling of urgency, Leviathan stages beings from an imaginary, timeless society destined to disappear, who cast a final glance at their surroundings: a look that is by turns amused, distant, questioning, cynical, curious, worried, full of tenderness, or anger, religious, incredulous.

Éric Oberdorff draws inspiration from Herman Melville’s masterpiece, “Moby Dick,” to work on its symbolism and its humanistic and spiritual dimensions, and he is nourished by Japanese spirituality — Shinto. He composes Leviathan in the form of an allegory and a fable, in an installation of survival blankets and ice blocks whose melting accompanies the duration of the piece…
