On September 8 at noon, the start of a not quite ordinary world tour took place. Indeed, if it is completed in 100 days or less, Lexie Aldford will achieve a world record for the second time.
A 25-year-old adventurer is challenging herself to complete a world tour in an electric car. For the occasion, she is partnered with the Ford brand. Lexie will travel across six continents behind the wheel of the new 100% electric Ford Explorer. โIt is important today to discover sustainable alternative solutions for traveling,โ declares the young woman.
An adventure fraught with challenges. She will need to find charging stations for the vehicle, which should not pose a problem on the European continent, as it boasts around 500,000 charging stations for electric cars. The Charge Around The Globe adventure (Editor’s Note: charge around the world) is expected to last three months. Lexie will travel the world with the second 100% electric car from the Ford brand.
In the footsteps of the pioneer of exploration
In 1920, Aloha Wanderwell was the first woman to travel around the world by car, at the time driving a Ford Model T. At the age of 16, Aloha Wanderwell traveled all around the world for five years. Lexie had the chance to meet Aloha’s grandson in California, and they talked at length about Aloha’s adventures.
โWhat was supposed to last as long as a cup of coffee lasted three hours,โ laughs the young adventurer. Like her predecessor, Lexie started and will end her journey on the Cรดte dโAzur. The modern-day explorer shares her adventure on social media. Followed by thousands of followers, she is better known as @LexieLimitless. Her followers provide significant support during her travels.
Lexie Aldford on the quest for a new world record
It is rare to hold a world record, but the Nevada native already has one and is on her way to earning a second. On May 31, 2019, Lexie became the youngest person to visit all 196 countries in the world, at the age of just 21.
She began traveling very early with her family. โThis is what gave me a taste for travel, for sure,โ she says. And when she was old enough, she set off on her own adventure with a backpack. A point of pride for the young woman who wants to demonstrate that one must dare to step out of their comfort zone. One day before departure, Lexie feels determined and eager to begin. โI am more than ready and excited to take on this new challenge,โ concludes Lexie.
