LFH: Gym falls at Bourg-de-Péage

Latest News

This Saturday, the OGC Nice Women’s Handball Team was defeated away by Bourg-de-Péage. A new defeat (31-21) places the Gym in the second half of the LFH standings.

There was no contest. The Niçoises faced fierce and determined opponents in the Péageoises, even though this match was far from easy for many. The Gym, which played throughout the game, lost by a margin of 10 goals. A score that was both logical and harsh at the same time.

Nice dominated throughout the match

Against a Bourg-de-Péage team that remains a title contender this season, Marjan Kolev’s players struggled to respond during the game. The first ten minutes were quite close (7-5, 11th minute). But the Péageoises quickly gained the upper hand over their adversaries.

Goals from players like Claudine Mendy, Alexandra Nascimento, and Lena Grandveau allowed the home team to pull ahead on the scoreboard. The visitors conceded a 5-0 run (16-7, 24th minute).

The Azuréennes tried to respond and created several opportunities. They managed to close the gap to seven goals behind their opponents (17-10, 30th minute). The halftime whistle blew with this score, and victory seemed already distant for the Gym.

30 minutes to respond

The Niçoises, missing their iconic captain Ehsan Abdelmalek, had another half-hour to win over their fans. Djazz Chambertin, Marie Prouvensier, and Leslie Joyce Mahouve created further opportunities.
But facing the Péageoise goalkeeper, Camille Depuiset, who made 15 saves during the match, the red and black team encountered a solid defense.

Instead, Bourg-de-Péage continued to increase their lead as the minutes passed (22-13, 40th minute). The gap became too large for the visitors overwhelmed by the home team’s play. The score continued to favor Camille Comte’s players (26-17, 50th minute).

The match ended with six new goals for the Péageoises and four for the Niçois. Bourg-de-Péage defeated Nice 31-21. With a total of 10 points and three wins in four matches, the team led by Cindy Champion temporarily tops the standings.

For the Nice team, this marks their third defeat in four matches this season. With their six points, the Gym is in 10th place and will need to regroup for their next away game against Mérignac.
