LGV PACA: Losing Steam? Call for a Response from the CCI 06

Latest News

As we had already written in our previous article, the economic, political, and social worlds of Var are far from supporting the LGV Paca line, which would mean the construction of a new station in La Seyne (?) for its territory with major geological constraints (given the precedent of the tunnel crossing Toulon), but especially the removal of the vineyards in Haut-Var. This, for Toulon residents, represents a gain of 15 minutes compared to the option of going to Marseille by regional train and from there to Lyon or Paris by the already existing high-speed train (TGV).

lgv_paca.jpg The reality is indeed beyond the noble intentions, fine words, and calls for “regional” solidarity. And, in times of economic gloom, wouldn’t this difficulty be a boon for the cash-strapped State looking for budget cuts?

The prefect of Var, Paul Mourier, announced on Friday the suspension of the ongoing consultation on the LGV Paca in his department.

Bernard Kleynhoff, President of the Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), who, alongside UPE 06, called for mobilization in support of this structuring project for the Paca Region’s economy, regrets the conditions under which the consultation took place recently in Var: “The actions of some justify the Prefect’s decision to wait until a certain calm is restored in the debates.

The Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur CCI remains attentive to ensuring that the interests of a few do not cause delays in this project: the consultation must imperatively end before the start of the election campaign period.”

The Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur CCI emphasizes the importance of integrating the Alpes Maritimes into the Latin arc and connecting them to the Italian and European high-speed network.
