OGC Nice, despite playing a good match, suffered a heavy defeat against Lyon at home (1-4).
As often happens in recent games, the Nice players paid for their numerous defensive errors, particularly with inaccurate back passes.
The victory against Nรฎmes on Wednesday restored confidence to the players, which was evident at the start of the match as Gym clearly dominated the proceedings against the Lyonnais.
For half an hour, the Nice team was on par with their evening opponent, a contender for the French champion title.
But in the 32nd minute, Stanley N’Soki made a poorly executed tackle in the box on Kadewere, causing a penalty.
Memphis Depay took the penalty and surprised Benitez with a subtle panenka.
The gap widened only 7 minutes later with a huge mistake from Boudaoui, who attempted a risky pass through the center of the defense. Kadewere easily intercepted the ball and calmly deceived Benitez with his right foot.
At the end of the first half, it was the former Lyon player Amine Gouiri, a revelation of the first part of the championship, who restored hope to the Nice fans. It was his 9th goal of the season and the 5th in Ligue 1.
Unfortunately, in the middle of the second half, during a swift counterattack by Lyon, Kadewere took advantage of a gift from Depay to go one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Benitez left his goal to recover the ball, but Kadewere was followed by his teammate Toko-Ekambi. Facing Benitez, he only had to pass the ball to the Cameroonian forward, who calmly pushed it into the net.
Houssem Aouar definitively ended any suspense with another goal in the 73rd minute.
With this defeat, the Gym finds themselves 12th in the standings with 21 points.
The last match of the year will take place this Wednesday, December 23rd, against Lorient at the Allianz Riviera.
